Private-label topicals (PLTs) are pain medications applied directly to the skin for the treatment of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain conditions suffered by injured workers. They come in various formulations such as ointments, creams, gels, lotions and patches. PLTs are a “copycat” version of existing, similar dermatological medications already in market.
According to a recent WCIR (Workers’ Compensation Research Institute) study, PLT prescriptions have increased over the years and are a growing prescription cost driver. While they are an effective treatment option for patients, they greatly increase claim costs mainly due to being dispensed in-office from physicians at higher prices. To put it simply, they have become a pain point (no pun intended)!
myMatrixx’s One Drug Review intervention program is a quick and easy way to reduce your claim costs while maintaining the best care for your injured patient. Making a slight modification to a PLT workers’ comp claim can deliver substantial savings while providing the same level of quality care.
