Phil Walls, RPh, Chief Clinical Officer, along with Terry Douglas Jr. of Surescripts will attend the 2022 Workers' Compensation & Risk Conference in Dana Point, CA and present "Barriers to Adoption: Realizing the Potential of Electronic Prescribing."

Presentation Overview

  • Date: Tuesday, September 6
  • Time: 2:00 p.m. (PST)

The full potential of electronic prescribing remains untapped – especially in workers’ compensation. This potential holds the key to minimizing disruption in pharmacy care, unnecessary delays at the pharmacy counter, minimizing risk from fraudulent prescriptions, and streamlining prescription authorization for claims professionals, but adoption to date has focused almost entirely on the most basic component, which is transmission of the prescription from the physician’s exam room to the pharmacy. This fast-paced presentation will explore the next phase of real-time prescription benefits for workers’ compensation, and the resulting advancement in injured patient care.

These advancements will involve moving clinical interventions from the point of dispensing to the point of prescribing. Rather than experiencing a delay in prescription processing because of a step-therapy edit, non-formulary drug or a concurrent drug utilization review concern, clinical concerns can be resolved or eliminated while the patient is still in the exam room. However, is the medical community ready for this sea change? Do prescribers have the expertise to resolve pharmaceutical concerns, and what will this mean to dispensing pharmacists? Come explore the future in this session as a clinical pharmacist predicts changes in patient care as well as the practice of both medicine and pharmacy.
